It’s happening and it sucks. I woke up this morning and when I finally fully opened my eyes in front of the bathroom mirror I saw that strands of my short brown hair covered the white t-shirt I slept in. Then I got in the shower and it was just like after you get a haircut and you have to wash off the little hairs. Only a zillion times worse ’cause it wouldn’t stop. Every time I touched my head my hand would be covered in hair. I finally gave up, turned off the shower and cleaned the very clogged drain. Who would’ve thought short hairs could make such a big pile?
So I had to pick out clothes that hopefully will camouflage hairs that fall out on them while at work today, and tonight I will shave my head- or I should say, have my head shaved. I don’t want to, but once again I’m forced to choose the better of two evils. Keep fighting the inevitable and have to handle the annoyance and embarrassment of my hair steadily falling out or just rip the band aid off quickly. Better to get it over with and start wearing hats and wigs… ugh.
p.s. sorry to those who tried to read this earlier – I posted it via my phone on the way to work and must have that default to password protected…
Hair, Schmair. It’s overrated. Think of the money you can spend on other things, the time you save not worrying about it, the products you don’t need to buy, the products you can buy instead…like sunblock! Get the silk kerchiefs, get the big hats that take the space of two people, wear a tophat, heck go bald and feel the air on your head as you have never felt it before (remember sunblock!). If balding guys can walk around with shaved heads…so can’t you and you’ve earned the frredom to be hairless…for awhile. Because it will grow back and you will have to worry again about how it looks and is my hair too long or too short and should I go to the stylist and what kind of cut should I get? and I need to get my hair done for this party in a certain way and…aand… and….you get the point!
Oh Peter – you certainly have a way of putting things! I miss running into you in the halls and hearing your take! Thank you for giving me a bit of perspective and a few ideas…
Big wide sombreros, Stetsons, trilbys, hats like the queen of England and Princess Kate. Wear them all!
Seriously, our sons went to school for 4 years with a girl who lost her hair to a genetic condition. In that environment, among her friends, that girl wore hairlessness freely because everyone accepted her as a friend and did not think twice. It was normal for her to be hairless. That is who she is. Bald is her normal. So, remember, it does not matter to your friends and family. This is your new normal for now and is a symbol of your willingness to survive. Also, it does not matter what anyone else outside your circle thinks. So, defy convention, be bold, be audacious, be courageous ….Because YOU WILl BE A SURVIVOR!.
With or Without makes no difference to me. I still love you for you.
Aw, thank you – love you too!!! (And all your fun cards- the Titanic one was great! 😀 )

How frustrating for you I’m so sorry your hair is leaving. Try to imagine, that just like your hair, the cancer is washing down that shower drain as well. Keep your head up! XO

Can’t wait to see your cool hat collection!
Me too! 😉 Note to self: must go hat shopping – only have one non-sports hat!
Oh honey, I truly know what your going through. I’m so sorry. On a good note, you won’t have to shave your legs at all for a while. There’s always got to be a small perk when you have to go through something horrible.
Sending big hugs!!!
Vicky
Thanks Vicky – and that is definitely the perk I am looking forward to! 🙂 xo
